Business History
After extensive experience in the CAD industry in both Canada and Australia, Neil Thomas, OneCAD’s President started OneCAD Solutions in July 2004. OneCAD initially began as a CAD sales, support and training business and also provided 3D Printing (rapid prototyping) sales and service. In May 2005, OneCAD incorporated as OneCAD Solutions Ltd.
OneCAD’s clients included mechanical engineering and industrial design companies along with manufacturers in a variety of fields. The business quickly grew to be one of the most successful Canadian CAD resellers as it maintained the highest level of service and training to such companies as AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada).
From the start, OneCAD also provided design services on a part-time basis to its clients.
In December 2006, due to market demand, OneCAD started its full-time design services alongside the CAD sales business in order to better service its CAD clients. Our design services initially started with 3 new employees providing 3D design services and 2D drafting detailing.
In July 2007, with the growth of the design services and the opportunity to consolidate the business, OneCAD Solutions sold its CAD reseller division and thus became 100% dedicated to design services.
Currently, OneCAD has 18 staff out of its Markham, ON offices, of which 15 are technical staff who deliver our services either on-site at our client’s location or from our offices. Due to demand and growth of our business, OneCAD has doubled its technical size over the last year. Of the 15 technical staff, all but 2 have engineering degrees and over 1/2 of them also have a master’s degree in engineering.
In September, 2008, OneCAD moved into its current offices of 3400 square feet in order to facilitate its growing staff numbers and to provide room for continued growth. OneCAD Solutions now has clients in Ontario as well as both Eastern and Western Canada and services its client base in all of the major mid-range and high-end CAD systems.
About 40% of the OneCAD business is in the nuclear industry and OneCAD Solutions is a proud member of the Organization of CANDU Industries.
